The Pellevé System received FDA clearance in 2009 for the treatment of mild to moderate facial wrinkles and a physician or qualified medical personnel under the direction of a physician may perform the Pellevé procedure. Clinical studies have shown that the Pellevé treatment is a safe and effective way to reduce wrinkles without surgery. The side effects and discomfort are minimal, and no drugs or anesthetics are used during the procedure.
The treatment uses advanced radio wave technology delivered through a “wand” to heat deep layers of the skin without damaging the upper layers. The process softens wrinkles by shrinking and tightening collagen. At the same time, Pellevé stimulates new collagen, which creates firmer, smoother, more youthful skin.
Candidates for Pelleve are healthy women and men, usually middle aged and older. Most Pelleve candidates have fine lines on the face, or wrinkled or drooping skin. Pelleve is most appropriate for those with mild to moderate wrinkling.
WHAT IS PELLEVE?
Pellevé is a non-invasive wrinkle reduction/skin tightening system that uses radio-frequency technology to heat deep layers of the skin, stimulating the production of new collagen in the face, including the skin around the eyes. The treatment is virtually painless and feels more like a warm massage. It is performed in your doctor’s office and takes between 30-60 minutes, depending upon the extent of treatment area. You’ll be able to go to work and resume your normal activities right away and no one will know you’ve had anything done.
A series of monthly treatments is recommended with yearly touch-ups for optimal results.
HOW IT WORKS
The Pellevé System delivers a constant, gradual radio frequency energy deep into the skin, causing heat to build up where the skin and fat layer meet. The increasing heat modifies the collagen bundles within the skin, causing contraction and thereby stimulating the growth of new collagen over time. The result is tighter*, younger looking skin.
There is generally no preparation required before having a Pellevé treatment but please arrive well hydrated, and ladies please come without face makeup if you’re having your face treated. Ask your doctor if you should discontinue certain topical products or medications.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT
Unlike other skin tightening systems, a Pellevé treatment does not require anesthesia. A Pellevé treatment is virtually painless and in fact, patients comment that it feels like a warm massage. First, a conductive gel will be applied to the areas to be treated. Patients say they feel a deep warming sensation when the Pellevé wand is applied to your skin. Some individuals may experience mild discomfort. It’s important that you act as a guide to describe the depth of the sensation as your clinician moves the wand gently across the treated areas.
during the treatment
Treatment time ranges from 30 – 60 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated at one time. You can go back to work and resume your normal routine right away, and no one will know you have had anything done.
There is no recovery time needed after a Pellevé treatment. You may be slightly pink with only very mild swelling for a few hours, you can wear makeup right away and resume normal activities, so it fits easily into busy schedules.
In most cases, patients see a temporary improvement in their skin for the first 24-48 hours following treatment. However, the process of regenerating collagen takes time, and therefore full results will continue to improve over the next several months. Nearly 90% of patients in the FDA clinical trial showed continued improvement at six months following treatment. For many patients, a series of three treatments spaced about one month apart may be recommended for optimal improvement. Additional treatments may be undertaken at any time for long term maintenance.
Many physicians combine Pellevé treatments with other cosmetic treatments such as wrinkle relaxing agents and dermal fillers. Only your doctor can recommend the best treatment plan for you, based on your skin type, age, and your cosmetic goals.
